सिकन्दर की भेंट एक सन्त से हुई। सन्त एक खुरदरी घास की चटाई पर बैठा धूप सेंक रहा था। सिकन्दर उसके सामने खड़ा हो गया और सोचने लगा कि सन्त उसे प्रणाम करेगा, पर उसने ऐसा नहीं किया। इसके बदले उसने कहा, "कृपया एक ओर को खड़े हो जाओ, धूप को मुझ तक आने दो।" सिकन्दर ने गुस्से से पूछा, "जानते हो मैं कौन हूँ?" सन्त ने कोई जवाब नहीं दिया। "मैं एक सम्राट हूँ-सिकन्दर महान्।" उसने कहा।

“सम्राट! तुम' नहीं, तुम नहीं हो", सन्त ने कहा। "हाँ, मैं हूँ", सिकन्दर बोला, "मैंने आधी दुनिया को जीत लिया है।" इस पर सन्त ने शान्तिपूर्वक कहा, “सम्राट तुम्हारी तरह बेचैन होकर नहीं घूमा करते। जाओ, लोगों के दिलों पर प्यार से विजय पाओ।” सिकन्दर ने प्रणाम किया और चुपचाप चला गया।
